What a nice day today. Rob and I were able to attend the wedding of our friends Chris & Christal at the Raleigh Temple this morning. It is always so nice to witness a ceremony at the temple, a nice reminder of our own wedding day. She is a beautiful bride. I must say, I admire Christal a lot. She's a really good example for me.
Later in the day we went to their reception. I had to leave the reception early to go and do Kelsey's hair for Prom. I know what you're thinking, I do not do hair but all she wanted was for me to pull it back and curl the ends, fairly simple. I think it turned out really good but I do not have a picture to prove my talent since I left the camera with Rob at the reception. Well, hope everyone is having a GREAT weekend. I must go now to give the little one a bath.

Sesame Street

This morning, Rob and I took Emery to see Sesame Street Live at the Greensboro Coliseum. She actually sat on Rob's lap (until about the last 20 mins, then she sat on my lap) and watched the show. She was either really tired or really enjoyed it. Dr. Handy's family was also there and were (as always) sweet as ever to Emery. It was nice to be out and about. As I was telling Tonya on the phone today, there are some days when I think I am going to lose my mind with Emery (not to mention staying home all day), yesterday happen to be one of them. I take the opportunity forgranted but sometimes, I need a break and I only have one kid. I know, I know. After we got home, Emery took a nice LONG nap for daddy (she would do it for him) while I went and got a manicure and a pedicure. It was wonderful. Rob even skipped a golf game for me to go. What's really going on. He was very thoughtful to think of me.

Thought these pictures were pretty funny. After swim lessons, Emery and I come straight home and I put her in the tub to wash off. After her bath, it's time for lunch, a little more play time then down for a nap a little before 1pm or so. She's usually still pretty "wired" after swimming (it's not like she does tons of work while in the pool) so I buy some time before her nap so she will sleep longer. At least, that's what I like to think. It never seems to work that way.
But today was somewhat different and I'm not sure why. I was feeding her lunch and we were finishing up the last pieces of bread and moving to the yogurt when she starts to lay her head down on the tray. I managed to get a couple of spoonfuls of yogurt in her when she finally just passed out. This is HIGHLY unusual. Emery is the least sleeping baby I know. She must've worked harder than I thought during her lesson this morning.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

So today is Mother's Day and it's been a good one for me. Rob has really gone out of his way to lighten my load (not that it's a big one, but still) and make me feel loved. We went to church this morning and Emery is at the stage of CONSTANT movement. Sometimes I think to myself, "Why bother?" but I know it's because it is the right thing to do, however uncomfortable it may be at the time. It's still the right thing to do. I say it over and over again when she's in the middle of screaming during a good lesson at church.
Our friends from Savannah (who are actually originally from Greensboro) stopped by for a short visit this afternoon. Emery and their children (Caroline and Davis) were able to "battle it out" over the toys. I tell you what, Emery can be a little bully when it comes to playing with toys, pushing everybody over and becoming vocal. I hope that is just a phase too. Wishful thinking.
Right before they got here, a short hail storm came through town. It was pretty loud and strong. We opened the door for a minute so Emery could pick up the chunks of ice and hear the noise. The ground was completely covered with ice when it was over. Pretty amazing.

{ Side note } Now that I am a mother myself, I see and understand how much I took my mother (parents) forgranted. Mother's are amazing. They are one of the greatest blessings we are given here upon the earth. My only prayer is that I can learn to be as patient, loving and understanding (did I already mention patient) to Emery as my mom was for me. Happy Mother's Day Mom! :)

Happy 1st Birthday Taylor!

Today we were able to go to Taylor's 1st Birthday Party in Wake Forest, NC. Taylor's mom attended PA school with Rob down in Savannah so we knew Taylor when she was first born. She is the cutest little thing. Taylor is wearing the cutest dress ever for a birthday party, then again, I am very favorable of smocked dresses.
Emery seemed to be very active at the birthday party. She was into everything. I thought the "baby" baby grand piano was pretty neat. All of the kids enjoyed playing a tune on that, pushing the bubble blowing lawn mower and riding the fancy pink car. We all enjoyed great food and it was nice to see Will and Jessica (Taylor's parents) again. Taylor - we hope you had a WONDERFUL 1st Birthday and thank you for inviting us, it was a pleasure. :)
The last picture is just Emery enjoying her sweet ride. She tends to show her graceful side when climbing onto the seat.

"Pimp My Ride"

LOL. I know, I know, not the best title but very appropriate. I was pushing Emery around in her car this afternoon and thought we should soup it up a bit, add a little flair to her wheels. I know Rob is not going to be happy without something Alaska on it but I didn't have anything on hand. My bet is he will get home, see the car and want to make something with magic markers and construction paper. lol. I'll help him out. Emery seems to like the new look. She kept looking at the stickers and pointing.

Swimming Lessons

Today was Emery's fourth swimming lesson. Seems like we've been a lot more than that but now we only have four more to go. She takes it at the local YMCA which is right around the corner so that's pretty nice. When we first signed up for the month of May we were called the first day of class and told it was cancelled and we could start in June. Turns out, there wasn't enough people signed up for Emery's age group so they called us back and told us to come anyway. We are combined with another class. The point of the story - there are kids in her class from ages 6 months to 2 years. Wide range for kids but they seem to all really enjoy eachother and the water.
Rob was able to pop in for a few mintues this morning to watch Emery's "Michael Phelps" type skills. She was doing laps left and right. lol. Not really but that would be kind of funny. The pictures are a little dark but you get the idea. For a second there, all she wanted was her daddy. Very clingy to him lately.
Her favorite part is when they all get in a circle and play with the balls. I believe her least favorite is trying to float on her side. Something about laying her head on the water does not appeal to her. She does pretty good when I get the opportunity to dunk her. She hasn't cried from that yet, just swallows a little bit of water. Fun, fun. Well, better run. Rob's home for lunch and I need to clean up some. Hope everyone has a GREAT day! Take care.

Weekend in SC

My how time flies. (Hi Heather - I'm back!) I do see that it has been a while since I've blogged but there really has been nothing to blog about.
We did have a nice weekend in SC while Rob was in Mississippi visiting friends. When we first arrived, Emery was able to enjoy her new ride. She loved it. Grandma pushed her around and around and around. Later that night, we paid a visit to little Andrew who was in the hospital. He has what looks like a little yellow cast on his arm, but it's really more like a yellow sock that covers his IV so he won't pick at it. He was able to go home that night so that was GREAT news for everyone. After leaving the hospital, my mom and I had dinner at one of our favorite Japanese restaurants in Columbia. As you can tell from the pictures (somewhat blurry), all of the normal seating was taken so we were able to sit on the floor. We were both skeptical about this because of Emery, but she did great, given she did stand pretty much the entire time. But she didn't tear down the table and run everywhere. She stood in her spot, ate her tofu (that picture is for you Lara), sucked on her lemon and played with her chopsticks. Kind of fun.
On Friday we were able to visit Lara and little Austin. Boy is he a cutie. It was wonderful to spend time with them. Lara seems to be doing really well adjusting to motherhood. I know sleep deprevation is painful, but it will get better Lara!! I'm sure of it. Later that night, Emery enjoyed playing with her friends Wyatt, Hannah and Will. Anything outside that involves other kids is right up her alley.
Saturday night we enjoyed a low country boil at home on the back deck and Emery enjoyed a ride on The Ranger (one of her favorite things to do at Grandma and Grandpa's). We also were able to watch the deer eat in the backyard. They didn't seem to mind us at all. They stuck around for the food even through all of Emery's screams. Pretty amazing. Emery wasn't too impressed with them like myself and my parents were.
