Student Led Conference

Ready to begin!

Last week, Rob and I were able to attend Riggs' first Student Led Conference. A "Student Led Conference" is exactly that - a conference between the parents, teacher, and the student that is led by the student. They are always enjoyable. Riggs was able to read us a couple of books, explaining punctuation throughout, share his thoughts on math, tell us how he is a good community member in the classroom, and lastly give us a hand written thank you card. Very sweet. It's always nice to see your little ones progress. Our hope is he continues to enjoy learning as much as he has this year! Good job Riggs! We are so proud of you!

Carolinas Aviation Museum

Since the kids were out of school on Tuesday, we took a field trip up to the Carolinas Aviation Museum. It's a huge hangar with lots of planes and videos on display as well as a guided tour of several planes outside the hangar. We were there for almost 3 hours. The kids really enjoyed it and the volunteers were top notch, very cordial and friendly. It was all very fascinating. The "Miracle on the Hudson" was the big attraction. Amazing story. Riggs is a big fan of airplanes (and trains, of course) right now. We bought him a small airplane kit and said he could have it once he memorized two more Articles of Faith. He was in concentration mode all day, doing his best to memorize two more. By the end of the day, he had earned his toy. We mostly admired his effort to get it done and gave it to him. Yeah, you may call us suckers. Bribery is also right up our alley. ;) Overall, a fun and educational trip.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day was a nice, long holiday for us. Mom bought the kiddos a Valentine the Saturday before Valentine's day. We gave them a small Valentine on Valentine's Day. They celebrated with their class on Wednesday (after finally returning to school from snow, President's Day, and teacher work day). And a package arrived in the mail yesterday from Aunt Molly and Uncle Jason. The kids are acting like it's Christmas around here. Lucky them! We completed their Valentine/Friendship cards the last time it snowed and I never even took a picture of them. But just so you know, they were super cute. :) Em gave everyone pink and red fortune cookies with a note that read, "I'm fortunate to call you my friend" and Riggs and Klein gave their friends a small shovel with a note that read, "I dig you!". The sister missionaries also "Heart Attacked" us on Valentine's Day. The kids loved it! Happy Heart Day! This means spring is right around the corner. :)

"Snowed In"

The snow started coming down Tuesday morning before the kids left for school and was on and off until Thursday morning. The kids got out of school around noon on Tuesday and school was closed through the weekend. They are also out today and tomorrow for a holiday and teacher work day. It's been nice. Rob came home early Tuesday. His office was closed Wednesday and Thursday and opened late on Friday. We have enjoyed every minute of being "snowed in" - huge snowmen, hot chocolate, sledding, cinnamon rolls, reading books, lounging, watching the Olympics, staying up late, and playing in the snow. It has been an extremely relaxing week.

Gathering

Riggs had his second "Gathering" last Friday. They put on a play - Somebody Loves You Mr.Hatch. Riggs was a narrator. We practiced his part several times the past two weeks. He did a good job. The play was entertaining. Hard to believe we're on the downhill of kindergarten. Why is time passing so quickly?!
